The traders have blamed a lack of supply for the rise in egg price in the port city.

In past three days, the price of egg rose by Tk 3 per four.

Reazuddin Bazar’s egg trader Mozammel Hossain told bdnews24.com that 100 eggs cost Tk 700 in the wholesale market on Thursday.

The price rose to Tk 780 on Friday.

“The wholesale price is Tk 32 per four, but the retailers are charging Tk 36. The retail price was Tk 32 three days ago,” he said.

Hossain warned of a further price rise if the supply does not become normal.

The price of vegetables did not change in the past week because of a high supply of winter greens.

Prices of all the vegetables, except new potato, local brinjal and tomato, remained between Tk 15 and Tk 40 per kilogram.

Retailer Md Russel said he was selling radish at Tk 15 to 20 a kg, cabbage Tk 20 to 25, cauliflower Tk 25 to 35 and cowpea Tk 40.

Tomato cost Tk 80 per kg and new potato Tk 60.

Brinjal from Jessore were being sold at Tk 60 to 70 per kg.
