Bangladesh wishes to buy power from Bhutan, eyes other projects

Bangladesh is eager to buy power from Bhutan to meet a growing domestic demand and join in its future projects, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.

The neighbours could be partners in investment or in sharing equity, she told the visiting Finance Minister of Bhutan, Lyonpo Namgay Dorji, at the Ganabhaban on Thursday. 

The prime minister mentioned that Bhutan’s unexplored hydropower potentials could help meet Bangladesh’s energy demands, her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters.

“Bangladesh attaches greatest importance to enhancing connectivity within the region and beyond,” he quoted Hasina as saying.
