Ericsson ConsumerLab turns 20

Ericsson Bangladesh has highlighted the manifold usage of consumer research conducted at Ericsson ConsumerLab at a media briefing held at its Gulshan Head Office.

The briefing was held on Monday to mark the 20th anniversary of Ericsson ConsumerLab.

Celebrating the occasion, the organisation claimed that it studied consumers’ use and attitudes towards ICT in more than 40 countries, representing the views of more than 1.1 billion consumers globally.

Afrizal Abdul Rahim, Regional Head of ConsumerLab, South East Asia & Oceania said people nowadays were more interested in using technology for activities of their daily life such as shopping, commuting and socialising.

According to the findings of the research, 48 percent users prefer to use their mobile phone for transactions. 

80 percent of the users believe that by the year 2020 smartphones will be used as a wallet for conducting daily transactions.

According to Ericsson ConsumerLab, users in Bangladesh are well aware of financial transactions done through mobile phones.

The study shows that 97 percent of users are interested to apply the technology and 4 percent are already practicing the service.

Quoting from the report, Rahim said a third of consumers in the US use mobile internet to watch live videos, which would be soon happening in Bangladesh.

It has been noted that following the launch of mobile internet in Bangladesh, the number of smartphone users have increased substantially.
