Nitol Niloy Group’s Matlub-led panel wins FBCCI polls

The panel led by Nitol Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad has won in elections to both the Chamber Group and Association Group of the apex trade body FBCCI.

Ahmad’s ‘Babsayee Unnayan Parishad’ won 12 of the 16 seats for directors of the Chamber Group and 13 of the 16 seats for directors of the Association Group.
 
‘Swadhinata Babsayee Parishad’, headed by the current first vice-president of the FBCCI and the Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Monowara Hakim Ali, got the four other seats of the Chamber Group.   
 
Kazi Erteza Hassan and Md Shafquat Haider Chowdhury are the leaders of other panel, ‘Babsayee Oikya Parishad’.
 
It won three seats in the Association Group.
 
These new directors of the FBCCI (Federation of the Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry) will vote again on Monday to elect the president, first vice-president and vice-president.
 
This time, for the 2015-17 term, the posts of the president and vice-president will go to the Chamber Group, while the Association Group will get the post of the first vice-president.

Election Commissioner MP Md Ali Ashraf announced the results of the Chamber Group on Saturday night and the Chamber Group on Sunday morning.
 
The voting was held at Motijheel’s Federation Bhaban on Saturday.
 
Ten special chambers and 10 special associations will nominate 20 directors.
 
The Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, confirming 26 votes from his panel in Monday’s election, have already nominated Ahmad. 
 
This also seems to confirm that Ahmad is going to be the chief of the top businessmen’s organisation for the next two years.
He needs 27 of the 52 votes on Monday to confirm the post.
 
Monowara Hakim Ali is the other candidate for the FBCCI president’s post.
 
The new Board of Directors of the FBCCI will be announced on May 28.
 
Thirty-two candidates vied for the 16 seats of directors in the Association Group, while 33 candidates contested for same number of seats in the Chamber Group.
 
From the 78 chambers in Bangladesh, 418 of 436 members voted on Saturday. 
 
There were 1,764 voters from the 355 associations. Of them, 1,533 cast their votes.
