FBCCI voting for 2015-17 term ends

Voting to elect the Board of Directors of Bangladesh’s apex business platform FBCCI for the 2015-17 term has ended.

The voting started at Motijheel’s Federation Bhaban at 9am on Saturday and ended at 5pm.

Voters of FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry) voted enthusiastically.

MP Ali Ashraf is the election commissioner for the FBCCI polls this time as in previous elections.

Police resorted to a mild baton charge to disperse slogan shouting supporters of candidates in front of the building around 10am.

Three panels are contesting for the FBCCI Board of Directors.

First Vice-President Monowara Hakim Ali is leading the ‘Swadhinata Babsayee Parishad’ panel.

Nitol Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad is heading the ‘Babsayee Unnayan Parishad' panel.

Kazi Erteza Hassan is the leader of other panel, ‘Babsayee Oikya Parishad’.

The total number of voters in this election was 2,196.  Of them, 432 voters were from Chamber Group consisting 78 chambers. The others were from Association Group, comprising 355 traders associations.

 Thirty two candidates vied for the 16 seats of directors in the Association Group while 33 candidates contested for same number of seats in the Chamber Group.

Ten special chambers and 10 special associations will nominate two directors.

The elected and nominated directors will vote again to elect the president, first vice-president and vice-president.

In this term, the posts of president and vice-president will go to the Chamber Group while the Association Group will get the post of first vice-president.

The final results will be announced on May 28.
