“The trend of the state being deprived of revenue and affected won’t stop unless this syndicate is broken,” said Obaidul Quader, who is in charge of posts and telecommunications ministry in parliamentary affairs, on Tuesday.

He said: “This syndicate has to be destroyed from the root. The government is being tough on it.”

The minister made the statement in response to a query by independent MP Rustam Ali Farazi.

Jatiya Party MP Kazi Firoz Rashid on Nov 24 had sought tough government actions against the ‘big shots’ involved in illegal VoIP (voice over protocol) operations.

Quader had said at the time that illegal VoIP ‘is on the verge of extinction’ thanks to different steps by the government.
