Bangladesh Jewellers Samity (BJS) General Secretary Enamul Haque Khan told bdnews24.com that this is because of the drop in global price of gold.

"Global prices of gold have dropped by 40 to 50 US dollars per ounce (2.43 bhoris). Our decision to bring down rates here is in keeping with global trends," he said on Tuesday.

BJS says that from Wednesday, a bhori of 22-carat gold would be priced at Tk 44,521.

A bhori of 21-carat gold would be priced at Tk 42,421 and a bhori of 18-carat gold would be priced at Tk 35,773.

Besides, price of traditional gold has been re-fixed at Tk 24,086 per bhori.

It was Tk 1,493 more per bhori than the latest prices after the downward revision.
The price of traditional gold was Tk 25,544 per bhori. It has dropped Tk 1,458 per bhori.
According to goldsmiths, one bhori of 22-carat gold contains 91.6 percent pure gold, 21-carat 87.5 percent and 18-carat gold contains 75 percent pure gold.
There is no standard of traditional gold made by melting golden ornaments.
BJS hiked the prices of gold by Tk 1,500 per bhori on Jan 22 last year.
