BKMEA chief Selim Osman hopes the 'Global Buyers' Information Directory', which took two years to compile, will contribute to boost knitwear export.

It also contains details on tariff and non-tariff structures, the economic environment, air and sea transport rates, comparative pricing and other relevant details, according to the BKMEA website.

"We've been looking for new markets for the knitwear sector and we already have success," Osman told bdnews24.com.

The BKMEA, an organisation of knitwear exporters, claims no such volume of business directory is available in the international arena.

It was unveiled on Saturday at a programme in Dhaka.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed at the function claimed there was no labour unrest in Bangladesh thanks to various measures by the government.
He claimed a faction of workers was trying to create unrest in the RMG sector much to the advantage of Bangladesh's competitors in the sector.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh earned $12.05 billion from knitwear export in the 2013-14 fiscal.
In the first five months of the current fiscal (July to November), the sector earned about $5 billion.
