Some of these websites are even offering free home delivery. Facebook pages have popped up, too, with photos of cows and goats.

They offer descriptions and say where the animals have come from.

Akhoni.com has been telling customers to ‘forget the hassle of going to a Gorur Haat (cattle mart) during this Korbani Eid’.

Their official facebook page promises people absolutely local and healthy cattle at the click of a mouse.

The cattle of choice, it says, will then be delivered to homes in Dhaka free of charge and within a day.

Meanwhile, Bikroy.com was offering cows and goats to customers posting advertisements this Eid.

The ad posts for selling cattle were found listed under the category - ‘Pets and Animals’.

Ekhanei.com, the country’s oldest classified site, has also been making cattle available online. Details of local and foreign animals were seen listed under category – Farm Animal.

Online gift shop upohar2me.com also assures customers of fast and free home delivery.

There were more on social media sites. Pages with names such as ‘Gabtoli Cattle Market’ open once viewers click ‘Like’.

amardesheshop.com has set up a section for ‘Qurbani Cows’ with photos and prices and an interesting tag line: ‘Those who don’t like haate’r hau-kau, here I’m your online cow!’

Free delivery was written on the ad in bold.

It mentions Ayesha Begum, a satisfied cattle seller from Tangail’s Pathrail, who said: “I got a good price after I sold my cow to amardesheshop.com. Now I’m getting my daughter married with that money.”

These websites provide details that start with photos, price, approximate weight, where the cow was kept and the seller’s phone number.

The markets online may allay the stress of having to tour the muddy, smelly, and crowded cattle marts that mushroom in the city.
