The Hong Kong-based company at a press briefing at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on Wednesday demanded $230,520 in compensation from the flag carrier.

Formia Director Li Wai Kuen said they had won an international bidding called by Biman on June 24 for providing bags and kits for Hajj pilgrims.

He said Biman had also made some changes in the specifications while his company was manufacturing 51,000 bags.

Biman on Aug 25 issued the purchase order for 5,000 bags and asked to deliver them within 24 hours, he said.

But the national carrier through an e-mail cancelled the order without showing any valid reason after the bags were delivered the next day, Kuen added.

Legal steps would be taken against Biman for such act, said Barrister Jennifer Ashraf, senior partner of Legacy Legal Corporate, the legal adviser for Formia.

The lawyer alleged it did not follow the Public Procurement Act 2006.

She urged Biman to settle the matter soon to maintain Bangladesh's reputation in the international market.

Biman acting Managing Director Mosaddeq Ahmed declined comment on the issue to bdnews24.com.
