Standard Chartered Bank and Bangladesh Brand Forum will jointly organise the award giving function at 7pm at Dhaka's Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury would attend the ceremony as the chief guest, organisers announced at a press briefing on Monday.

Speaking at the briefing, Standard Chartered Bangladesh's Head of Corporate Affairs Bitopi Das Chowdhury said, “This award is our humble attempt to recognise individuals and organisations who have played exemplary roles, through innovation and hard work."

"Through these awards, we hope to spur innovation and modernisation amongst the thousands of farmers who are toiling hard to meet the nation’s demand," she said.

The award will have five categories– Farmer of the Year (Male), Farmer of the Year (Female), Innovation in the Sector (under the subcategory of process, distribution, application of fertiliser, technology innovation), Best Associated Industry and Best Agriculture Export.

The idea behind the award is succinctly described in its philosophy – recognising the best practice and performer in an unbiased and objective manner, said a press release from the organisers.
Shariful Islam from Bangladesh Brand Forum said at the briefing they would continue awarding farmers in a bid to inspire them and to develop the country's agriculture sector.
“We will also have programmes to keep the farmers updated about the recent international developments and information about the agriculture sector of other countries of the world,” he added.
