‘Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra’, ‘Rana Plaza Workers' Union’ and ‘Garments Sramik Front’ organised the protest programmes.
Their leaders demanded that BGMEA and government pay salaries and incentives to families of the dead, missing and injured workers of the two tragedies that stuck within a span of six months.
Over 1,100 garment workers were killed in Apr 23 Rana Plaza collapse which came hot on the heels of the Nov 2012 fire at Tazreen Fashions factory killing over 110 workers.
The accidents highlighted poor safety in Bangladesh’s export-oriented RMG sector that accounts for over 80 percent of the export income.
Protestors demanded laying off workers should be stopped immediately and that those already laid-off be re-employed.
