The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Kushtia Highway in Dangi Union around 11am on Tuesday, said Bhanga Highway Police OC Ezazuddin.

The dead have been identified as Wazed Chowkdar, 65, Raqibul Hassan, 25, and Meherun Nessa, 55.

A bus coming from Barisal veered out of control and rammed into pedestrians standing on the side of the road, said Dangi Union Parishad Chairman Md Abul Kalam Azad.

“Three died on the spot and at least ten others were injured.”

The victims were all local residents, he said.

The injured have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Highway Police and Fire Service personnel have begun conducting rescue operations with help from locals.

Passengers said the bus driver was speaking on his mobile phone at the time of the accident, said OC Ezazuddin.

Police believe this may have led to him losing control of the bus.
