Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Traffic Department slapped the fines during a drive against wrong-side driving at Hare Road in only one and a half hours from 4:30pm on Sunday, a police officer said.

"We've prosecuted them," DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Ashraf Hossain told bdnews24.com.

The penalised people also include top officials of the administration, RAJUK, Fire Service, police, home ministry, and journalists, the police officer said.

Three cars were towed away with wreckers during the drive, Ashraf said.

He added that VIPs take the wrong lane on Hare Road most of the times.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Traffic North) Rifat Rahman Shamim was present during the drive.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has for several times urged VIPs, including ministers and MPs, not to drive on the wrong lanes to get around traffic congestions.

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia had also warned against the breach of traffic laws, especially wrong-side driving.
