Mother dead, two children injured in fire at Dhaka’s Badda

A fire has spread through a tin-roofed building in Dhaka’s Badda, leaving a woman dead and her two children wounded.

The incident occurred early Sunday in the Boithakhali area, said Badda Police Station OC Wazed Ali.

Yasmin, 38, died from burn wounds while undergoing treatment in hospital. Her two children Amanullah, 11, and Sanjida, 8, have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The tin-roofed building was used as a furniture factory, but was also used as a home, Fire Service Control Room Official Jibon Miah told bdnews24.com

“Police rescued Yasmin and her children from the scene around 3am and took them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital,” said OC Wazed.

Amanullah has suffered burns to 30 percent of his body and Sanjida has burns on 28 percent of her body, the hospital police outpost’s Sub-Inspector Md Bachchu Miah. They are currently in the hospital’s burns unit.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, but fire service officials believe it may have been an electric malfunction.
