From a driving licence found in his pocket, police have identified the man as Md Sadikul Islam, 26, from Samsabad village of Nababganj.

Witnesses said Sadikul died on the spot after being hit by a Kamalapur-bound train around 5:15pm on Friday.

One of the witnesses, Nurul Islam, said, “He was taking a selfie. A train was passing towards the Airport Railway Station and another towards Kamalapur. The driver blew whistle several times. We also shouted, but he didn’t hear us.”

Another witness said neither the whistles nor the shouts reached Sadikul because he had his earphones on.

The witnesses communicated with his family using the two phones found on Sadikul, he said.

Dhaka Railway Police OC Md Yasin told bdnews24.com that a team was sent to the spot.

Police would take the next step after getting in touch with the victim’s family, he said.
