“We look forward to productive dialogue at the #UNGA on the issues of Rohingya refugees and pressuring North Korea following their recent missile and nuclear tests,” the embassy wrote after posting a video of the 16-second interaction.

However, there has been confusion over the brief exchange.

Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque told journalists that the US president had told Hasina: “We stand by you on the Myanmar issue. And we will see how it can be resolved."

But the prime minister herself told Reuters that: “He just asked how is Bangladesh? I said 'it's doing very well, but the only problem that we have is the refugees from Myanmar'. But he didn't make any comment about refugees."
