In Pabna, two college teachers and the son of one of them drowned after electrocution during an Eid-ul-Azha boat ride in the backswamp of Chalan Beel at Chatmohar on Sunday, a day after the Eid.

The victims are Tegharia College lecturers Abjal Hossain, 40, and Anwar Hossain, 45, and Anwar's son 'Sohan', 11.

In Mymensingh, three people drowned, and three others were injured in a boat capsize in a canal at Gafargaon.

The deceased have been identified as cousins Asma Akter, 21, Sadia Akhter, 14, and Shakibul Hasan, 10.

Giving details on the first incident, bdnews24.com’s Pabna Correspondent quoting Chatmohar Police Station OC Shariful Islam said the incident occurred at a place between Saikola and Handial on Sunday afternoon.

OC Shariful said the three were in a team of eight to 10 Eid holidaymakers who went to hang out in Saikola.

They rented an engine-run boat for a ride in Chalan Beel.

Some of them sat on the rooftop of the boat's cabin and five drowned after being electrocuted by a live power line that came near the surface of the water due to floods.

The others rescued two immediately, but the three others went missing.

The locals recovered the bodies in a search operation, the OC said.

The Mymensingh correspondent reported quoting Pagla Police Station OC Chan Mia that the boat capsized in Boladair canal in Islampur village around 6:45pm.

Tajul Islam, a member of the local union council, said the six were crossing the canal on their way home after visiting a relative's house during Eid celebration.

The three survivors were given first aid, he said.

OC Chan Mia said the three bodies were handed to the families without post-mortem examination on their request.
