The inmate, 26-year-old Sujan, was accused in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act at the Dhamrai Police Station.

Police admitted him to the burn unit of the state-run hospital on Tuesday and deployed two jail guards --- Sujan and Al-Amin -- to keep an eye on him.

“The inmate must have fled at night. The guards could not find him in the morning,” Sub-Inspector Bacchu Mia of DMCH police outpost told bdnews24.com on Wednesday.

The two guards, Sujan and Al-Amin, have been suspended, said Superintendent Jahangir Kabir of Dhaka Central Jail.

Action has also been taken against Ekhlas Uddin, in charge of prison guards at the hospital.
