The recommendation to establish new supply lines and repair old ones were made by a parliamentary committee on Wednesday.

The rolling outages that happen in villages despite there being a supply of power is damaging the government’s image, said a notice by the Parliament Secretariat after the committee’s meeting.

“To avoid this, the government must update its distribution system by making necessary repairs to old lines and set up new ones, and also construct necessary numbers of substations.”

The Rural Electrification Board has set up over 10 million power lines as part of a project to reach electricity to homes across the country, the committee has said.
