On Sept 18, Nitu Mondol died after she was hacked with a sharp weapon. The 14-year-old was on her way to school when she was attacked.

On Monday, the district and sessions judge's court sentenced suspect Milon Mondol to death.

Milon, who was the tutor of Nitu’s younger brother, was caught by local residents and turned over to police as he attempted to flee the scene of the crime.
Nitu’s father filed a murder case that night at Kalkini Upazila’s Dasar Police Station.
Milon was a third year undergraduate student at Syed Abul Hossain University.
According to case documents, Milon used his position as a tutor to harass Nitu in various ways. He later confessed to the court.
Milon was indicted on Jan 28 after police submitted their investigation report.
