The fire started inside an office of a private university located on the third floor of the six-storey shopping mall at Dhanmondi's Road 6/A around 4pm on Sunday afternoon, a Fire Service control room officer told bdnews24.com.

The flames later spread to the adjacent rooms and the 17 fire-fighting units brought them under control around 6:45pm, he said.

The fire service official could not provide the reason behind the fire and the extent of damage it has caused.

Dhanmondi Police Station Inspector Parvez Islam told bdnews24.com that two shops, including a food shop, on the third floor of the building caught fire.

He also said the fire did not cause any casualties.
