Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali inaugurated the new electricity connection in his constituency. Khansama, on Thursday.

This is part of the current government’s efforts to reach power to the far-flung areas.

The foreign minister sought votes for the ruling Awami League in the upcoming elections to continue with the development.

“We want to supply electricity to entire Bangladesh,” he said.

Some 360 families got the electricity on Thursday. The minister said the entire village will get power connections by 2018.

Bangladesh has installed power plants with a combined capacity to generate 13,596 MW since independence, with the Awami League accounting for more than 61 percent of it in the last eight years.

The government aims at producing 24,000 MW electricity by 2021 and 40,000 by 2030.
