Bangladesh distributes food among Syrian refugees in Ankara on National Mourning Day

Bangladesh has distributed food among the Syrian refugees in Ankara as the country’s missions abroad observed the National Mourning Day on Tuesday.

The embassy in Ankara said they distributed food among 100 families of Syrian refugees in coordination with the Turkish Red Crescent.

The day started with the hoisting of the national flag at half-mast in Bangladesh and all its foreign missions abroad.

The embassies and high commissioners also read out messages delivered by the president, prime Minister, foreign minister and the state minister for foreign affairs during a discussion.

A video presentation on the life and achievements of Bangabandhu was also screened.

Meanwhile, Deputy Leader of the Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury attended the Mourning Day programmes at the Bangladesh embassy in Bangkok.

The foreign ministry officials led by Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque paid floral respect to Bangabandhu’s portrait at Dhanmondi Road 32.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali distributed reliefs in the flood-hit areas of his constituency in northern Dinajpur district.

On that day in 1975, the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with his family members at his Dhanmondi 32 residence.

His daughters Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana survived as they were abroad at that time.
