RAB arrests death-sentenced fugitive war criminal Hafiz Uddin

The Rapid Action Battalion or RAB has arrested fugitive war criminal who was sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal.

RAB-14 Kishoreganj camp chief Hasan Mostafa Swapan said the elite force arrested the 67-year old war criminal Hafiz Uddin from Barshikura village of Itna in Kishorganj on Saturday.

On May 3, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Hafiz and three other members of 'Razakar', a wartime collaborating force of the Pakistan Army, to death for crime against humanity. The court had also jailed another Razakar until death for the same crime.

The charges against them included abduction, murder, torture, looting and arson attack.

The three other death-sentenced convicts are ATM Shamsuddin Ahmed, his brother former army officer ATM Nasir Uddin Ahmed and Gazi abdul Mannan, all from Karimganj Upazila.

Azharul Islam from the same Upazila got the lifetime imprisonment.   

Among the convicts, Shamsuddin is on death row, and Mannan died while absconding last year. Nasir is still absconding.
