The committee formed with representatives of teachers, alumni and students gave its report to Vice-Chancellor Syed Saad Andaleeb, said the private university said in a media statement on Wednesday.

It said Farhaan Uddin Ahmed, the law teacher who was assaulted by registrar Sahool Afzal and two others for refusing to accept his termination papers, cannot be let off based on Section-7 of his appointment contract and the evaluation of the university's Professional Development Centre.

His termination or permanent appointment as instructor would have to be based on his academic research, teaching evaluation, self-development and whether or not he carried out his responsibilities towards the university and society as a whole, the committee said.

The probe committee was headed by AFM Yusuf Haider, Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Natural science.

Its other members are Prof Syed Manzoorul Islam of the Department of English and Humanities, Prof Afsan Chowdhury, the university’s alumni head Md Tajdin Hassan and a student representative.

Students staged protests for days, leading to suspension of classes, after law teacher Farhaan Ahmed said he was assaulted on Jul 30 by registrar Afzal, a retired army official.
