In a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday, he expressed “consistent” support by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and solidarity with the deprived Rakhine Muslims, the foreign ministry said.

He also “deeply appreciated” Bangladesh’s roles in hosting a huge number of Rohingya population.

The Myanmar authority formed a commission led by the former UN chief Kofi Annan. But they are yet to start the implementation process of ending the decades old Rohingya crisis.

During the meeting with the foreign minister, he discussed issues of common interest of the Muslim Ummah and matters of bilateral importance between OIC and Bangladesh.

The foreign minister gave him a short overview of the advancement and development of Bangladesh in various socio-economic fields and its efforts in containing terrorism especially through appropriate counter-terrorism narratives and so on.

The Secretary General appreciated Bangladesh’s increasingly important role in OIC and thanked its decision to host two OIC events -- the 10th OIC Tourism Ministers’ meeting in November this year and the 45th OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in the first half of next year.

He assured of OIC’s cooperation in that regard. He also appreciated Bangladesh’s consistent support for the people of Palestine.

The OIC Secretary General is leading a five member OIC delegation in his first ever visit Bangladesh since assuming office last November. He also met the president and the prime minister.
