The proposal was put forward during the second day of the Deputy Commissioners’ Meeting on Monday during a session involving the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, the Environment and Forests Ministry and the Food Ministry.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon told the media after the meeting that the DCs had proposed the modernisation of older airports and the construction of newer ones.

Asked where the DCs wanted the new airports, Menon said: ‘Bogra’.

“There will soon be two international airports. The Bangabandhu International Airport will be the largest. In addition to the plan we are also considering the construction of airports in other areas.”

Menon said that surveys were being conducted for the construction of the Bangabandhu airport. “We hope to complete a spatial location survey by the end of this month (July).”

“There is scope for the expansion of internal tourism. The DCs have recommended different ways in which the opportunities present in each of their constituencies may be used.”

“We are currently conducting surveys in the areas the prime minister has promised to develop tourism. In some cases we have begun enacting the plans.”

The deputy commissioners of every district, the ministers and ministers of state, deputy ministers and secretaries from the relevant ministries are participating in the conference chaired by Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
