Ismat Ara, wife of a retired court clerk, and her daughter Tanzila Afrin secured GPA-4 in the exam meant for the 12th graders.  The result was published on Sunday.

They, however, went to different institutions. Ismat took the exam from Aima-Jamalpur Technical College under vocational board while Tanzila from Joypurhat Government College in science division.

"I had to attend classes wearing the burqa for fear of public shame. Some people taunted when everyone came to know the matter. But, I shrugged it off," said Ismat.

Ismat's dream is to become a lawyer and fight for oppressed women.

Tanzila said she had hoped a better result. Ismat is happy with Tanzila's result.

Tanzila's father Jahangir Alam, a retired court clerk, said he was also happy with the results of his wife and daughter.

He said he would continue to help his wife and daughter with their studies.

Aima-Jamalpur Technical College teacher Kanak Sarker said, "Ismat Ara is older than most of the teachers, but she always showed respect to us."
