HSC results: Sylhet tops success rate, Dhaka has most with GPA-5

Sylhet board has left behind seven other education boards of Bangladesh with the highest success rate in Higher Secondary Certificate or HSC exam this year.

Comilla lies on the other end of the list like the previous year.

In Sylhet, 72 percent of the students have cleared the exams while in Comilla 49.52 percent. 

Rajshahi and Barisal followed Sylhet with success rates of 71.30 and 70.28 percent respectively.

The overall success rate of HSC and equivalent higher secondary exams has fallen to 68.91 from 74.7 percent last year, according to Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.

A total of 37,969 students scored a GPA of 5 against 58,276 in 2016.

The difference was due to the new evaluation methods used in the exams, the education minister said after handing over of the results summary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Sunday.

The success rate in the madrasa board is 77.2 percent while 1,815 students secured GPA 5.

Dhaka board has the highest number of GPA 5 scorers—18,930, followed by Rajshahi with 5,298.

A total of 1,815 students have achieved GPA 5 under the madrasa board.

The numbers are 2,669 and 243 under the technical board and Dhaka-based Diploma in Business Studies or DIBS respectively.
