The clashes continued overnight on Saturday between the followers of BCL’s General Secretary Imran Khan and Joint Secretary Sajidul Islam Sabuj, Assistant Proctor Abu Hena Pohil told bdnews24.com.

The injured are identified as BCL’s Joint General Secretary Ashraful Islam Ontu, Zahid Hossain Naim, Abdullah Al Masud and Simanto.

All of them are the followers of Imran Khan and have been sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

The clashes began surrounding an argument about smoking in the University Chattar area in the evening between Sajjad and Tonmoy, followers of Imran Khan, and Moniruzzaman Monir, a follower of Sabuj.

At one point, students backed by Monir started beating Tonmoy, which later turned into a fist-fight and took a serious turn of events at Shah Paran Hall.

The followers of Sabuj vandalised motorcycles and rooms at Shah Paran Hall, witnesses said.

Asked about the vandalism, Sabuj said: “The clash happened due to misunderstanding among junior students. Later, the senior students intervened and resolved the matter.”

Imran Khan also said the clash was the result of misunderstanding between junior students.
