Rail service from Dhaka to north and south halted as train derails

A train has derailed in Pabna, halting service on rail lines from Dhaka to the north and south of Bangladesh.

Two carriages of the Teesta Express, including the engine, went off the rails in the Muladuli area of Ishwardi Upazila around 1:30pm on Saturday, said Ishwardi GRP Police Station SI Imran Hossain.

The accident occurred as the Teesta express was on its way from Khulna to Dhaka and has halted train service to the north and south, said Hossain.

“A rescue train from Pakshi is headed to the scene.”

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined, SI Hossain added.
