Boiler that exploded at Gazipur apparel factory was outdated, says probe committee

A probe body formed by the local administration of Gazipur has said the boiler, which exploded at an apparel factory on Monday killing 10 people, was outdated.

The eight-member panel headed by Additional District Magistrate Md Raihanul Islam opened the probe on Tuesday morning.

The committee is trying to find out what led to the explosion and identify the guilty.

It has to submit a report with the details within seven workdays and also recommend ways to avoid such tragedies in future.

The committee is made up of officials from different forces like police, industrial police, fire service, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, BGMEA and Gazipur City Corporation.

The explosion at the Noapara-based Multifabs factory occurred Monday evening. The explosion took place in the dyeing section of the four-storey factory and damaged the first and second floors.

The death toll has risen to 13. Other 44 people who suffered injuries in the incident are admitted to different clinics.
