The accident occurred in the Gerakhala area of Kasiani Upazila around 10am on Thursday, said Kashiani Police Station OC AKM Alanur Hossain.

The deceased are Halim Akon (40), his wife Asma Begum (35), their sons Shujon (17) and Shihab (8) Begum’s brother Badshah Foraji (37), and an unidentified driver.

The family had been returning home after picking up Akon, an expatriate who works in Saudi Arabia, from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

A Sheba Greenline bus headed from Gopalganj to Dhaka collided with the microbus head-on, OC Hossain told bdnews24.com.

“The microbus was headed from the airport to Bagerhat’s Sharankhola. We do not yet know the cause of the accident.”

At least 10 injured in the accident have been taken to local hospitals for treatment, he added.

An inspection of the spot of the accident shows the bus had crushed the microbus.
