12 killed in road accidents in five districts

Twelve people have been killed and at least 34 others injured in road accidents around the country.

bdnews24.com correspondents have sent reports detailing these accidents.

Two, including a patient, were killed in Dhaka’s Dhamrai after an ambulance hit a tree, three were killed in Khagrachhari after a bus fell into a ditch, three more were killed in Sirajganj after a bus collision with a motorcycle, three were killed in a Chittagong autorickshaw accident and one person was killed in Gopalganj after a pickup overturned.

Dhaka ambulance

Two, including one patient, were killed on Wednesday as an ambulance carrying them hit a roadside tree in Dhamrai Upazila of Dhaka; four more including the driver were injured.

The accident happened at the Bathuli area in Dhaka-Aricha Highway around 10:30am, said Dhamrai police inspector Dipak Kumar Saha.

“The two died instantly when the ambulance lost control and hit a tree in the Bathuli area,” said the inspector.

Khagrachhari bus

Three, including a woman and a child, have been killed and at least ten injured after a bus fell into a ditch in Khagrachhari.

The accident occurred around 9am on Wednesday on the Khagrachhari-Chittagong Highway in the Guimara Upazila, said local police OC Shariful Islam.

The injured have been taken to the Manikchari Upazila Medical Complex for treatment.

“The bus was headed to Chittagong,” the OC told bdnews24.com. “Along the way the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned and fell into a ditch. The three died on the spot.”

Gopalganj pickup

A worker was killed and 20 others injured when a pickup overturned in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Wednesday.

The accident happened around 6:30am in the Bhennabari Bazar area, said local police SI Fariduzzaman.

“The pickup was going to Takerhat carrying 20-25 passengers. Dilip died on spot when the pickup fell into a ditch,” Fariduzzaman told bdnews24.com.

Fariduzzaman said that 20 people injured in the accident have been admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital.

Sirajganj motorcycle

Three motorcycle riders have been killed after their two-wheeler crashed head-on with a bus at Shahjadpur Upazila in Sirajganj.

Shahjadpur police Sub-Inspector Jahidul Islam said the collision took place around 11:30am on Wednesday at Talgachhi on Bogra-Nagarbari road.

SI Islam told bdnews24.com that the crash with a Dhaka-bound bus had killed the three, who were going to Shahjadpur, on the spot.

Chittagong autorickshaw

Three people have been killed in Chittagong after an autorickshaw fell into a canal electrified by a hanging power line.

The accident occurred early on Wednesday on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar Highway near Patia College Bazar, said Patia Highway Station OC ABM Mizanur Rahman.

The autorickshaw driver lost control of his vehicle around 1:30 am and it overturned into a ditch, OC Mizanur told bdnews24.com.

The three victims were electrocuted by a power line that had fallen into the canal water, he said.
