Farmer hacked to death in Patuakhali

A farmer in Patuakhali has been hacked to death by his cousin after an argument over a buffalo ruining crops.

Five others were injured in the attack, which occurred in Andua village in Mirjaganj Upazila on the evening of Eid day on Monday, said Mirjaganj Police Station Inspector Milon Mitra. The deceased has been identified as local resident Jafar Howladar (30).

His older brother Shahid Howladar (40), his wife Rina Begum (32), their son Rifat (13), another brother Habib Howladar (35) and one of the attackers, Md Alamgir Hossain, were injured in the attack.

They have been admitted to Barisal’s Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Alamgir has been arrested by police and is currently under guard at the hospital, said Inspector Milon.

The argument between Jafar Howladar and his cousin Malek Howladar began after a buffalo belonging to Jafar got free and ruined some crop cultivated by Malek, Mirjaganj Police Station OC Monir Hossain told bdnews24.com.

Then, around 7am on Monday a group led by Malek attacked Jafar’s home and injured several people.

Jafar died on way to a local medical complex for treatment, OC Hossain said.
