Let everyone experience the joys of Eid, says President Hamid

President Md Abdul Hamid has conveyed his Eid greetings to the country and called on everyone to share the joys of the festival.

“Eid brings together people from all walks of life in amity, harmony and unity,” he said. “Eid-ul-Fitr is an eternal call for the creation of a peaceful and united society.”

The president  greeted people from all backgrounds at the Bangabhaban in the morning.

“The joys of Eid should not be limited, but, according to the ideals of Islam shared with friends, relatives and neighbours. It is my wish on Eid ul-Fitr that the holy day’s lessons are learnt by all and that will help us to build a prosperous Bangladesh.”

The president’s wife Rashida Khanam and others of his family stood by the president as he greeted his guests.

“Islam is a religion of peace,” said Hamid. “There is no place in it for envy, enmity or violence. Islam does not support militancy or terrorism. Instead it preaches humanitarian values, coexistence, tolerance, equality and friendship for all.”

Speaker of the House Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha attended the president’s event.

Among the other attendees were Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Ami, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Food Minister Md Qamrul Islam, Parliament Chief Whip ASM Feroz, Advisors to the Prime Minister HT Imam and Mashiur Rahman, Minister of State for Finance MA Mannan, Minister of State for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim, Minister of State for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque.

Members of the diplomatic corps, including the Vatican’s ambassador to Bangladesh Archbishop George Kocherry, US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat, Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla and Sri Lankan High Commissioner HE Yasoja Gunasekera also attended the event.

The chiefs of the armed forces, the inspector generals of the police, vice chancellors of various universities and other notable personalities were also present.
