Muslims in Bangladesh will celebrate the festival on Monday as the Shawwal moon was visible on Sunday evening.

Meteorologist Abdul Mannan on Sunday said the monsoon is less active now at the second phase of the rainy season. But there are chances of rain in the capital and some other parts of the country on the Eid day.

At the beginning of the season, heavy rainfall had led to deadly landslides in several distracts of the southern region, killing over 160 people.

However, with the weather improving in the past several days, the Met office now has projected a sundrenched morning for Dhaka during the Eid prayers on Monday.

According to the forecast, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind may occur in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Chittagong and at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh with moderately heavy falls at places.

Mannan told bdnews24.com, "Hopefully, the weather in Dhaka will be pleasant. There are fewer chances of interruption during the Eid prayers. But it won't be a surprise if light drizzle occurs in the afternoon at some places.

"Rainfall may occur in Rangpur, Sylhet and the coastal region in the morning."

On Sunday, many areas in Barisal, Khulna, Chittagong and Sylhet experienced rain. The highest rainfall - 40 millimetres - was recorded in Sylhet.

Mannan added rainfall might increase starting from Tuesday.

The forecast said the low over north bay off Bangladesh-West Bengal coast now lies over north-west bay and adjoining coastal area of Gangetic West Bengal-Odisha. The monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate over north bay.

Thousands of people who left the capital for town and village homes to celebrate the Eid holidays with their loved ones did not face much trouble weather-wise due to the good conditions of the past few days.

But they may suffer if rain picks up during their return journey after the Eid.
