“Every train is departing on schedule. I have spoken with passengers of different routes. They said the trains were arriving and leaving on time. They have expresses satisfaction,” he told reporters at the station during a visit on Friday.

Hoque said until 3pm only one train was delayed due to some mechanical issues while 27 others left in time.

He claimed such feat was achieved as railway officials were carrying out their duties appropriately.

Regarding the issue of scores of passengers risking their lives by climbing on the roofs of trains while travelling home, the minister said they had asked the security officials to ‘politely make the passengers understand’ that it was dangerous and hence banned.

Earlier, around 2:45pm, Hoque boarded the Chittagong-bound Subarna Express and talked to the passengers during his visit.

The train was scheduled to leave at 3pm, but the minister’s coach visit delayed it by around 10 minutes.
