“The case is still in the primary stages. There has been no mentionable development yet,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur division Deputy Commissioner Masud Ahmed told bdnews24.com, confirming the decision on Thursday.

Talukdar, an assistant superintendent of police, was found dead with a cloth wrapped around his throat near the Birulia Bridge in Rupnagar on Dhaka’s outskirts on Wednesday morning.

He left his Uttara home for work around 5am Wednesday in plainclothes. His home is only 20 minutes away by car from the spot where he was found dead.

The body bore bruises on neck and other parts, Dhaka Medical College Hospital has said in an autopsy report. Police believe he was strangled.

Talukder was posted in Savar circle of the Highway Police under Gazipur zone.

His younger brother Masum Talukdar started the murder case against several unnamed people with Rupnagar police Wednesday night.

After the autopsy at DMCH, Talukder was buried at the family graveyard at Tangail’s Ghatail on Thursday afternoon.

A Dhaka court earlier in the day also fixed Jul 30 as the deadline for the police to submit the probe report on the case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Hoque announced the date after receiving the case dossier, Mohammad Anisur Rahman, deputy commissioner of police (crime information and prosecution division), said.
