The data collection will end on Aug 9, EC Secretary Muhammad Abdullah  told reporters on Wednesday.

The commission estimates that 3.5 million new voters will be added to the roll once the update is done.

Abdullah said the commission will gather data of only those who were born on Jan 1, 2000 or before but had not been included in the list in previous updates.

Names of dead voters will also be dropped this time.

The electoral roll, after the last update in 2015, has around 102 million voters.

The new data will be uploaded onto the national database until Nov 5.

A draft of the updated list will be published on Jan 2 next year and the voters will be given until Jan 17 to seek corrections.

The final list will be published in Jan 31.

The EC secretary said Tk 144 per voter will be needed to update the list. The total cost is estimated to be around Tk 505 million.
