The body bore bruises on neck and other parts, Dhaka Medical College Hospital has said in an autopsy report. Police believe he was strangled.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Hoque announced the date after receiving the case dossier on Thursday, Mohammad Anisur Rahman, deputy commissioner of police (crime information and prosecution division), said.

Mizan was posted in Savar circle under Gazipur.

The officer left for work around 5am Wednesday in plainclothes, said highway police DIG Atiqul Islam.

Mizan’s home in Uttara is 40 minutes away by foot from the spot, where he was found dead. The officer did not use his car, nor was he accompanied by any bodyguard, said OC Alam.

He suspected that Mizan was killed before 6am.
