Police believe Mizanur Rahman, an assistant superintendent of police, was strangled.

The body was found by the Birulia Bridge on the outskirts of Dhaka around 11am Wednesday, said Rupnagar police OC Syed Shahid Alam.

Mizan was posted to Savar zone.

The officer left for work around 5am Wednesday in plainclothes, said highway police DIG Atiqul Islam.

Mizan’s home in Uttara is 40 minutes away by foot from the scene where he was found dead. The officer did not use his car, nor was he accompanied by any bodyguard, said OC Alam. He suspected that Mizan was killed before 6am.
“But we are not sure if he was killed on that spot or was dumped there after being killed somewhere else,” Alam told bdnews24.com.

Police were trying to find out if he was mugged. Mizan, aged around 50, was a father of a son and a daughter. He was brought up in Uttara.
