The dead are 18-year-old Md Sohel and 17-year-old Harun-Ur-Rashid, residents of a village in Moheshpur Upazila.

Prahalad Haldar, a ward member of Nepa Union in the district, said the incident was reported to him around 9am Tuesday.

A patrol team of Nadia-based BSF opened fire after the boys crossed the zero point into the Indian territory on Monday night, said local witnesses.

The two died on the spot, they said.

When contacted, Border Guard Bangladesh or BGB said a flag meeting had been called.

BGB Jhenaidah 58 Battalion's Director Lt Col Zillur Rahman said details would be disclosed after the flag meeting.
