Communications yet to restore as 145 points damaged on roads to Rangamati

As many as 145 points of seven roads connecting Rangamati with Chittagong, Khagrhachharhi and Bandarban have been damaged in landslides, according to the Roads and Highways Department.

Thirty-seven of those points suffered extensive damages.

Officials of the department said they were trying to repair the roads so that light vehicles can ply on them in two to three days.

They said they were not sure if it would be possible to repair the roads for heavy vehicles before Eid-ul-Fir, which is expected to fall on June 27, a date subject to the appearance of moon.

Locals fear a crisis of fuel oil and essentials in case of failure to repair the roads quickly.

Communications with the district is snapped for four days after the parts of the roads vanished in the landslides.

People and goods are being transported only on boats from Chittagong via Kaptai.

People are also taking risky hillside footpaths to cross the damaged parts of the roads.
