Bangladesh ‘a hope for the region’: new FAO representative

The newly appointed representative of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, FAO, in Dhaka has termed Bangladesh a ‘hope for the region’ referring to its success and achievements in food and agriculture.

Susan Lorraine Lautze expressed her “deep satisfaction” over the FAO’s partnership with the government and also hoped that the success of Bangladesh can be a “model” for other countries of the world.
 
She was presenting her credential to Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on Wednesday, the foreign ministry said.
 
Accepting the credential letter, Ali welcomed her to Bangladesh.
 
She also briefed the minister about some of the future plans of FAO in Bangladesh in partnership with the various agencies of the government.
 
An US national, Susan had a long career in various capacities in the FAO, WFP (World Food Program) and UN Offices in various parts of the world.
 
Referring to the long standing relations between Bangladesh and FAO, the foreign minister appreciated FAO’s support and contribution in Bangladesh in the areas of agriculture, food, livestock, rural development and environment.
 
He also highlighted the progress and development that were taking place in Bangladesh’s socio-economic sectors under the leadership Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
