Court orders death for five in 2006 Mishu killing

A Dhaka court has awarded death sentence to five in a 2006 case of the murder of former joint secretary Nur Uddin’s son Mohiuddin Mishu.

Magistrate Md Ataur Rahman of Dhaka’s first special judge court announced the verdict on Monday.

Three more accused have been given life sentence as many have been acquitted.

The death row convicts are Humayun Kabir, Abul Kalam, Torikul Islam, ‘Ishak’ and ‘Kalam’.

‘Hashem’, ‘Raja’ and ‘Badshah’ have been sentenced to life in prison. The court also slapped Tk 100,000 fine on each of them.

According to case details, first year student of People’s University of Bangladesh, Mishu, was abducted in 2006.

The abductors took him to Pabna and demanded Tk 6 million as ransom from his family.

They later killed the boy when they did not get the money.

Mishu’s father started the case with Kafrul Police Station the same year.

Police filed chargesheet the next year.
