The law enforcers, led by police's counterterrorism unit, surrounded the five-storey house in Genda around 7:30pm, Dhaka District Detective Branch Inspector ASM Sayed said.

The suspect, identified as 'Babu', rented a flat on the ground floor of the house around two months ago, said Anwar Hossain Molla, the owner of the house.

Molla said Babu left the flat with his wife and a child, aged around 4 months, in the morning. He also said he does not know Babu's permanent address.

Detective Sayed said the raid was conducted on a tip-off that there were seven grenades in the flat.

Nothing was found in the flat during the raid, he said.

Monir Hossain, a pick-up van driver in Savar's Fultola, brought Babu to Molla for renting the flat.

Police could not find Monir either. "We suspect that Monir is also linked with militant activities," said Sayed.

His wife Rimu Akter said Monir left home with his pick-up van in the morning. The couple have two children.

After raiding Babu's flat, police surrounded another house in the same area around 9:30pm.

Dhaka Superintendent of Police Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman and other officials were seen entering the six-storey house in the night.

Additional SP Ashraful Azim told reporters that police suspected militants were holed out in a room on the first floor of the house. The suspects are believed to have explosives with them, he added.
