Mother, 4-year-old daughter murdered in Feni, police detain two

A mother and her daughter have been hacked to death at their home in Feni. Police have detained two people over the incident.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at a village in Fulgazi Upazila, said Superintendent of Police (SP) SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar.

The victims are Fatema Shathi, 25, and her 4-year-old daughter Shantika Islam Isma.

Fatema had been living at her father’s home since her separation from her husband a few months ago.

They were found murdered in their room, Fatema’s sister Ayesha Koli told bdnews24.com. The two were killed sometime between the afternoon and the evening.

The family alleges that though Fatema’s former husband Shahadat Hossain Rimon, 35, is in jail, he may have planned the murders.

“They were married about seven years ago,” said Fatema’s mother Hosne Ara Begum. “After the wedding, Ripon began to reveal his true self. He was involved in criminal activity and named in around a dozen cases.”

“After much struggle, Fatema finally asked him for a divorce. Ripon was infuriated and made threats. After he was arrested on a kidnapping charge, his friends continued to make threats.”

After receiving word of the murders, the district administration chief Monoj Kumar Ray and SP Sarkar went to inspect the scene of the crime, said Fulgazi Upazila Chairman Abdul Alim.

Two persons have been detained in connection with the murders and a case is being prepared, said Fulgazi police OC MM Morshed.
