Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Khurshid Alam granted the bail on Monday, said General Registry Branch Officer of the Court SI Mokbul Hossain.

The bail petition in the case by the Dhaka University administration was made by lawyer Harun Ur Rashid. There were no petitions against the bail.

Bail was set at Tk 30,000 for each of the suspects, the lawyer told bdnews24.com.

Prof Dr ABM Abdullah, Kashem Yusuf, Dr Mortuza, Lt Col ASM Matlebur Rahman, Dr Masuma Parvin, Dr Jahanara Begum Mona, Dr Maksud Parvin and Dr Tapan Kumar Boiragi were the suspects released on bail.

First-year Dhaka University Life Sciences Department student Afia Jain Choiti died on Thursday evening at Green Road’s Central Hospital. Her fellow students vandalised the hospital after receiving news of her death.

They allege that Choiti had been admitted due to dengue fever, but had been treated for cancer instead.

The next night the university administration filed a case of ‘negligence’ and ‘medical malpractice’ against the hospital’s director MA Quasem and eight other doctors.

MA Quasem  was arrested and then released on bail on Friday.
